Inkblock

Redact PDFs and photos on your phone

Your landlord wants a bank statement. The buyer wants your ID. Inkblock finds the account numbers, card numbers and addresses on the page and blacks them out permanently — running entirely on your Android phone. Your documents are never uploaded.

Free to use. Android 8.0 and later.

How it works

1. Scan or import

A PDF, a photo, or a screenshot. Use the camera or pick a file you already have.

2. Review what it found

Sensitive values are marked automatically. Accept the ones you want hidden, reject the rest, or draw your own.

3. Export and share

The exported copy has the hidden text removed from the file itself — not painted over.

What it finds automatically

Twenty-four detectors, all free — no upgrade needed for automatic detection:

Blackout, not cover-up

Inkblock doesn't lay a shape over your text. It re-renders the page and burns the bar into the pixels, so the hidden characters are gone from the file itself — nothing to select, copy or recover from what you send. Exported as lossless PNG at up to 2480px on the long side, with the document's title and author fields dropped along the way.

Worth knowing: drawing a filled black shape over text in a general annotation tool is not a redaction. The text usually stays in the file underneath and can be copied straight back out. If you use one, look for a dedicated redact function rather than a shape.

Your documents never leave your phone

Text recognition, detection and redaction all run locally. There is no server that receives your documents, and the app ships no analytics or tracking SDK. Sign-in is optional and unlocks nothing — if you never sign in, we never learn your name or email, and your documents are never uploaded either way. Google’s on-device ML Kit libraries do send Google technical usage information about their own operation — never your documents or anything recognised in them; the privacy policy lists exactly what.

Questions

How do I redact a PDF on Android?

Open it in Inkblock. It reads the page, marks what it finds, and you accept the suggestions you want. Export, and the resulting copy has the hidden text removed rather than covered.

Is the text really gone?

Yes. The page is re-rendered and the characters no longer exist in the exported file, so they cannot be selected, copied or extracted with a text tool.

Does it work on photos and screenshots?

Yes — PDFs, photos and screenshots all work the same way.

Is it free?

Scanning, importing, automatic detection and manual redaction are free, with ten exports a month. Pro adds one-tap auto redaction, batch processing, custom detection rules, an encrypted vault and unlimited exports.
